Gemma Charlesworth, a Beacon Bingo team member from Northampton, has been named Praesepe’s “Employee of the Month – November 2017” after she went above and beyond to protect hundreds of customers from an electrical fire which started at the club on Monday 6th November.
Gemma, 25, who has worked for Beacon Bingo for six years, was nominated for the award by co-workers and Beacon Bingo’s operations manager, Phil Gibbs.
Phil said: “Gemma was at work when the fire started, and when the alarm sounded she immediately filed the customers outside, making sure they were all safe and constantly informed of the current situation. The customers have praised her for all her efforts – Gemma was a true star that evening.”
“Gemma handled the situation perfectly, putting customers and colleagues’ safety first, and she is someone to be truly admired. I think she is more than deserving of this month’s award.”
Praesepe, a national leisure services group that employs over 1,900 people throughout the UK, operates Beacon Bingo, Cashino, Crystal Casino, Funshine, Jackpot FM and Tan Express. Its Beacon Bingo venue in Northampton is located on Weedon Rd.
“I’m incredibly surprised to have won the award, as I was just doing what I could to calm down the customers, so for Praesepe and my colleagues to recognise this, is truly humbling,” Gemma said.
Gemma was joined by colleagues in a surprise ceremony on Friday 22nd December and Praesepe’s CEO, Nick Harding presented a certificate to mark her hard work and selflessness; a special Employee of the Month award; and £250 of high street vouchers.
