Teenager Michael Murphy, who represents Great Britain in para equestrian dressage, is one of the latest young people to receive a bespoke powered wheelchair, thanks to Praesepe’s fundraising activities on behalf of CHIPS. Michael who lives in Mill Hill, north London, received his chair at a presentation held at the Beacon Club in Cricklewood.
The talented teenager suffers from a condition that causes nerve damage and muscle weakness, and after recently undergoing spinal surgery is unable to walk unaided. Michael’s mother Sue explained: “Representing Great Britain in para dressage is tremendous and the sport itself is beneficial for Michael’s condition, but it is costly. We are all so grateful for this kind donation, which is going to make such a difference and will help Michael to live a normal life with the independence he needs. Before his operation he was well on his way to achieving his dream of taking part in the Paralympics and I’m sure this new powered wheelchair is going to help build his confidence and spur him on further. Thank you so much.”
